We are thrilled to announce that our keynote speaker this year is writer-producer Adele Lim.
Adele is a writer-producer for Film and Television. Most recently she wrote the screenplay adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians (2018, Warner Bros.) A Malaysian native of Chinese descent, she came to the States at 19 and graduated from Emerson College, Boston. She has written on and produced multiple primetime TV dramas, including One Tree Hill, Private Practice and Lethal Weapon. She also mentors writers through CAPE's New Writers Fellowship and is a judge for the Writers Guild of America’s Writers Access Project. Currently she is developing a one-hour drama series for FOX and writing a screenplay for Disney Feature Animation.
Maria Agui Carter is a writer/director, and Emerson College professor. Formerly a staff producer for WGBH, Boston, she has won George Peabody Gardner, Warren and Rockefeller awards. Her PBS feature documentary REBEL, won an Erik Barnouw Award (best historical films in America), and she directed and served as advisor for the 2018 PBS & transmedia series SCIGIRLS 2018. In production is the ESPARZA documentary, about a Latinx woman incarcerated for the murder of her rapist by her boyfriend. Next up she will direct her script SECRET LIFE OF LA MARIPOSA, a magical realist narrative feature based on her experience growing up undocumented.
